Do I need a boat licence in Ireland ?

No, we will give you an individual tuition on the cruiser and we will make sure that you feel safe and comfortable on the boat.

What is the best way to get to Ireland ?

You could either fly into any of the international Irish airports (Dublin, Shannon, Knock or Belfast in Northern Ireland), or take one of several ferries travelling from Belgium, France, Germany or Holland. We have a couple of links for you here. Please don't hesitate to ask us for advice.

What about electricity on the cruiser ?

All our cruisers are fitted with a 220-Volt inverter, which delivers max 350 Watt. You can charge your mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras and similar equipment onboard, but the system is not suitable for hairdryers. Our boats are also fitted with 12-Volt-cigarette lighter sockets, which you could also use for charging if you bring a suitable 12-Volt adaptor along.

What is the best time of the year for a boat holiday in Ireland ?

The season starts middle of March and finishes end of October. We prefer May/June and September ;-)

What is the weather like in Ireland ?

Everybody in Ireland is talking about the weather all the time – and there is a reason for this: You could have four different seasons on the same day. But all in all it has to be said, that there is by far less rain than people say. The gulf stream, which is very close by, does the rest: it never turns really cold in Ireland. What is the minimum age for hiring a boat ?

One crew member has to be at least 21 years of age and we would expect another crew member to be at least 16 years of age..

Is the boat insured ?

Yes, all our cruisers are fully comprehensively covered. If worse comes to worst your liability is limited to the deposit you have to pay.

How far can we go by boat ?

Almost the whole Shannon- and Ernesystem is navigable – all in all nearly 500 miles of waterways. More to be found on the webpage of Waterways Ireland

Are there any regulations I have to know ?

You will find all regulations on the charts and in our captain’s handbook, which you will receive during the tuition. It is forbidden to drive at night. There is a speed limit in certain stretches of the navigation.

Are there many locks in Ireland ?

There are 7 locks on the Shannon, 16 on the Shannon-Erne-Waterway. The Erne doesn’t have locks.

Do I have to bring towels and bed linen ?

No, You will find anything onboard, what makes you feel comfortable during your holiday: Bedlinen, towels, toilet paper, a fully equipped galley with cooker and hob, all crockery and cuttlery, a fridge and of course life jackets, a fire extiguisher, first-aid-kit, captain’s handbook and navigation charts, a torch, binoculars and a dinghy.

Do I need a fishing licence ?

No,at present there is no fishing licence required on the Shannon. But there is a fishing permit, which costs 7€ and can be purchased at our base. You will also need a permit on the Erne, which can be purchased at local tourist offices.

How much are the mooring charges ?

There are no mooring charges at most of the marinas along the Shannon.

How much fuel does the boat use?

Our cruisers use between 3,5 and 7 liters diesel per hours – depending on the type of cruiser. You have to put approximately 100 Euros per week aside for refueling.
